Starting on Wednesday 20th June 2007 at 10am outside Camberwell College on Peckham Road the students will work in ten hour shifts in an attempt to reach their target.

They expect to finish on the day Gordon Brown officially takes up office on the 27th June 2007. The mammoth adoration has been organised by the students in an attempt to ask the Prime Minister to consider 2 policy changes as he takes up his new post. Number 1, end student debt and number 2, bring the troops home from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Ryan, a spokesman for the students says, "Its going to be tough, we have a strong team of students but one week of constant prostrating will be hard, we believe we can do 720 prostrations an hour, but a target of 50,000 is a lot. We all love Gordon and think he will make a fantastic Prime Minster and this is our way of expressing our love, adoration and belief in Gordon, we just want him to make these policy changes. Now we want him to believe in us and wipe out our student loans so we can start our lives after university debt free. And stop the wars. All hail our new leader, Gordon Brown, lets start a fresh." The shrine will be decorated with flowers and goodwill messages and hopefully people will come from far and wide bringing offerings to show their support for the new Prime Minister.

for more info ryan 07877376395 or 07944533010

This event is part of the Camberwell College of the Arts Degree show.
Camberwell College Degree Show dates Tuesday 19 - Saturday 23 June 2007 Tuesday - Friday 9am - 8pm; Saturday 11am -
4pm

UNVEILED THE WORLDS LARGEST HAIR SCULPTURE

Press release May 2007

THE WORLDS LARGEST HAIR SCULPTURE.

A student from Camberwell College of the Arts has created what is believed to be the world's largest hair sculpture, for her final degree show. Naomi St. Claire-Clarke, 34 of Camberwell in South London has built the 3 metre high by 2.5 metre by 2.7 metre baroque hair sculpture from millions of strands of human and artificial hair, which includes an assortment of both frizzy and straight hair, as well as braids, afro balls and kiss curls most of which has been brought from local Peckham hairdressers and shops. The sculpture contains the DNA of hundreds of people, it is literally the worlds largest wig, but it is unfortunately unwearable. So far it has taken 4 months to construct and the end is finally in sight!

Naomi says that the sculpture is not a homage to either Russell Brand or Amy Winehouse.
Naomi comments, `My work was inspired by a recent trip with my family to Ghana, where I bought a vodoun doll, which I became completely attached too and I actually now sleep with
It. My Dad is from Barbados where Ghanian slaves were transported too and I wanted to reference this fact, and to look at the way hair has played a vital role within culture and religion over the centuries and this still remains true today. I have called my giant hair sculpture `The Unconscious Significance of Hair'.

for more info call Naomi on 07762752576
or Matt Tillett on 02075147914
or go to http://camberwellcollegenews.blogspot.com/

Degree Show dates
Tuesday 19 - Saturday 23 June 2007Tuesday - Friday 9am - 8pm; Saturday 11am - 4pm

STUDENTS OFFER FREE TAXI RIDE TO NORTH LONDONERS TO GO SOUTH

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_hWgMNHa90YY/RlrrlQcrogI/AAAAAAAAACE/bB1HoebwEy8/s400/taxi+image.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5069623355861869058" />

Students from Camberwell College of the Arts are to take to the streets of North London and offer people the opportunity of a free taxi ride to go south. They are spending their student savings on the rent of a black taxi which they have booked for one day to discover why it is people do not want to travel south.
for more info call ryan 07877376395
or 07955433010

Degree Show dates
Tuesday 19 - Saturday 23 June 2007
Tuesday - Friday 9am - 8pm; Saturday 11am - 4pm

THE WORLDS LARGEST HAIR SCULPTURE

Summer Show +

GUIDED TOURS OF SUMMER SHOW
Tuesday 19 June to Friday 22 June, daily at 11am and 6.30pm
Meet at the reception, Camberwell College of Arts, Peckham Road
There will be special guided tours of the show, to book please call 020 7512 6302 or email enquiries@camberwell.arts.ac.uk

WORDS ARE NOT ENOUGH by Cornford & Cross
Temporary peace garden over abandoned nuclear bunker and public address on art, conflict and memory
Saturday 16 June, 2pm
Meet in front of Southwark Town Hall, Peckham Road, SE5
Free

In a vacant plot of land, a shaft drops down to a concrete stairway leading to a network of flooded chambers. In total darkness, food supplies, power generation, air filtration, and communications systems lie obsolete, decaying, and forgotten. Built in 1953 to accommodate council staff in the event of a nuclear attack, the underground shelter is a relic of the Cold War era. Today, as an astonishing economic regeneration gathers pace in Southwark, the land stands ripe for development in this most dynamic and promising area of the Capital.

Cornford and Cross will create a temporary peace garden over the entrance to Southwark council’s nuclear bunker to re-connect world history with personal memories, reflect on ideas of closure and celebrate new possibilities. The work will launch with a public address by Professor Paul Gough of the University West of England, who is an international authority on the aesthetics of conflict.
For more information visit http://www.cornfordandcross.com/

Part of Architecture Week
Part of the Camberwell Arts Festival
Supported by the University of Wolverhampton

FOLLOW THE YELLOW BRICK ROAD
Take part in the creation of a temporary public art installation
Wednesday 20 June, 11am – 7pm
Front of building, Camberwell College of Arts, Peckham Road
Free

Books, toys, rags, plastic flowers… what ‘paves’ the way to art?!
